MooMoo Options Screener Review

The MooMoo Options Screener helps investors search for options contracts that match specific criteria. It lets users filter through tons of options to find the ones that actually fit their trading goals.

MooMoo rolled out this feature in April 2024. It’s now part of their growing collection of investment tools.

The Options Screener brings over 30 customizable filters. You can search by option type, expiration date, strike price, implied volatility, and a bunch of other stuff.

Features

The screener includes filters for both the underlying stock and the options contracts themselves. For the stock, you can filter by Implied Volatility (IV) and IV rank if you’re after something with a little more action.

For the options contracts, you can set filters for trading volume, expiration date, strike price, and implied volatility. Want to narrow things down? Just set ranges for things like “Days to Expiry” or “Mid Price.”

To get to the Options Screener, head into the app and follow Markets > Options > Options Tools > Options Screener, or go through Markets > US/HK > Screener > Options. The interface splits into two tabs, one for stock filters, one for options filters.

Once you’ve set up your filters, you can tap on any option in the results list to see more details. There’s also a “Multiple Charts Display” feature, which is pretty handy if you want to compare trends across different options in one place.

Saving filter settings as strategies is easy. You can come back and edit or delete these saved strategies whenever you want.

Like something you found? Hit the heart icon to add it to your watchlist. That way, you can keep an eye on specific options without starting your search all over again.

Costs

The MooMoo Options Screener comes free for all MooMoo users. You won’t run into extra fees just for using the screener.

Honestly, having this kind of tool for free is a pretty sweet deal if you’re an options trader. MooMoo includes advanced tools like this in their standard account, which adds a lot of value for folks who trade options regularly.

Just keep in mind, standard options trading fees still apply when you actually make a trade. MooMoo’s commissions for options trades are separate from screener access.

Summary

The MooMoo Options Screener gives options traders a way to hunt down specific contracts fast. You can filter the options market using whatever criteria matter most to you.

With saved screening strategies and watchlists, it’s honestly a practical tool for anyone who trades options more than once in a while.

Pros and Cons

The Options Screener brings quite a few strengths to the table. It packs over 30 customizable filters, so you can really fine-tune your search criteria.

The interface splits stock filters from options filters, which honestly makes things less confusing. You can save your screening strategies for later, and that’s a real time-saver if you run similar searches often.

Adding options to watchlists helps you keep an eye on trades you’re considering. That’s handy, especially if you like to track multiple setups at once.

But, of course, there are some drawbacks. Some folks wish the filter options went even further.

For instance, one person mentioned they’d like an expiration date range filter, and another pointed out the lack of an S&P 500 membership filter. The interface can feel a bit overwhelming at first, especially if you’re brand new to options trading.

Most users, around 86%, say they like the tool. Still, about 14% think there’s room for improvement.
